Ready or Not

We know our audiences love theatre and music for little ones, so we have found a company who makes contemporary dance especially for children too. Using movement, music and a host of imaginative props, the dancers create a lively playground on stage. It's a captivating and colourful performance, showing children the nature of playing together, making friends and both how to share and trust one another, as well as encouraging individual play.

Emma says: 'I saw this at The Point in Eastleigh and wanted to bring it back for Cornerstone little ones straight away!'

Sunday Afternoon Tiffin Concert

We are delighted to be bringing classical music back to Cornerstone, and what a lovely way to start. These professional, talented musicians are playing a delightful programme. Formed by members of the Southbank Sinfonia, the Ensemble takes its name from father and son Sir Lennox and Michael Berkeley. They champion unusual British music alongside the standard chamber music repertoire. Here playing Bach’s Prelude and Fugue arranged for string trio, Lennox Berkeley's String trio and Beethoven's String Trio Op.9 No.1, this is a beautiful afternoon of music.

Bob Kerr and his Whoopee Band

With great pleasure, a sense of trepidation and a frisson of excitement, we present this wild and wacky show. Bandleader, trumpet player and director of this ‘Asylum for the Musically Insane’, Bob Kerr was an original member of The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, and with his four musical compatriots, they bring us much musical fun.

Super saxophany, piano, bass, banjo, guitar, drums and tuba combine with swanee-whistle and even the trouser press!

'...an extraordinary and gloriously idiosyncratic phenomenon.' Birmingham Mail

Luke Wright

Heidi Talbot

Heidi was due to go to Cornerstone in Autumn 2011, but a throat infection unfortunately ended the tour. We immediately booked her in for this date and have already sold a third of the tickets. Heidi's voice is like spun gold, with comparisons to Björk, Linda Rondstadt, Norah Jones and Kirsty MacColl. Heidi appears here with the incomparable John McCusker on fiddle and Ian Carr, virtuoso guitarist with a unique, syncopated style.

'A voice that is both awestruck and tender' THE NEW YORK NEWS

Emily Smith Trio

Emily is one of the leading singers on the contemporary Scottish folk scene. Powerful, clear vocals and songwriting likened to a 'Scottish Joni Mitchell' have won her countless awards, including nominations for 'Folk Singer of the Year' and 'Best Traditional Track' at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2012. She's performed on Songs of Praise, with Richard Thompson, with Eddi Reader, Beth Nielsen Chapman and many more, and is coming to us as part of her nationwide tour.

'As far as I'm concerned she can walk on water.' Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2

I, Elizabeth

A Queen at 25, political phoenix and famously unmarried, Elizabeth I was the most educated woman of her age, but who was the woman beneath the crown? Using only Elizabeth’s own words, adapted from letters, speeches and writings, Rebecca Vaughan (Austen’s Women) plays Elizabeth at a vital crossroads in history, as she steps from the shadows to unburden herself of her troubles and reveal her innermost thoughts.

‘A performance worthy of an academy award Oscar.’

Bayou Seco

Using fiddle, accordion, banjo and guitar, this show takes us on a melodic journey through the American south-west. Long forgotten songs from the Mississippi river up to the coast of California are beautiful, heartfelt and life affirming.

Ken Keppeler and Jeanie McLerie love the music they have been playing for over 30 years and they perform here with their son Thomas. 'I hadn't heard a better audience response the whole weekend.' Jonathan Aird, Americana UK.

Can you Dig It?

Comedy songwriters and real-life allotment gardeners - Jo Stephenson on the ukulele and Dan Woods on the accordion, cucumber trumpet and carrot pipes - stir up a riot of fun with a host of hilarious tributes to growing your own. How could you miss a rap between an angry gardener and a slug, a campaign to give sprouts the recognition they deserve and an 80s power ballad to cuddly TV favourite Alan Titchmarsh – 'I'd gaze into your crinkly eyes, but I'd have to bend down 'cos you're half my size'!

The Churchfitters

This flamboyant four-piece band from England, Ireland and France is taking audiences by storm. Fast-paced, fresh, original songwriting unites the rhythms of rock and pop with the universal appeal of traditional music. Fiddle, double bass, bouzouki, flute, musical saw, sax, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, whistle and mandolin, come together with a large dose of humour for a truly energetic night.

'The most musically inventive quartet I have seen in decades...a standing ovation from the festival. Go and see them and you will understand why.' Dave Pegg, Fairport Convention.
